To all of you that celebrate it, let me wish you a Merry Christmas. To those of you that do not, let me instead wish you a happy holiday season of your choice.
Before I get into my little Christmas miracle, let me shed a little backstory on things. When I stepped back from Pokemon fiction, I had already had about 7 chapters of Shadows of Deceit written. After about a month, by some fantastic stretch of the mind, I managed to misplace the notebook I had transcribed these chapters in. Don't ask me how, I don't honestly remember, nor did I remember where I had lost it, be it at my actual home or at my apartment I stayed at during the school season. Despite searching, I could not find it at either location. Given my recent interest and rewriting of ASSiS, I had made it a point to scour my room during my visit home for Christmas. Obviously, this morning and much of the day was spent opening gifts and having a grand time with family.
When said family retired about an hour ago, I came downstairs to change into my own PJs. I knew where I had kept the binders holding the notebooks within which ASSiS and ST were written, along with the binder that I knew I had started writing SoD in. For the longest time, I was convinced that the misplaced notebook was within. Surprise, surprise, it wasn't. I stood up resignedly and muttered "I bet it's somewhere up at school." Literally no sooner had those words come out of my mouth than my eye drifted to the cabinet where I keep all of my old issues of Nintendo Power, catching something that looked like the wire of a spiral-bound notebook near the top of the stack. Figuring "Why not?" I slid the two magazines off the top. The backing of the notebook had been torn off, so I could read the words on the page immediately. Not something I had written for ASSiS or ST, yet it mentioned the same characters. Flipped the notebook over to look at the first page, and bam, there it was; "Shadows of Deceit" written across the top. After two years, I had finally found the damn thing!
Of course, I sat down and started reading it. Honestly, I had forgotten I had turned things up to such a level in the first four chapters. I actually put it down for a moment and went "Oh sh*t..." out of pure shock.
I've kept you all waiting long enough for this story, so here's how we're going to do things. I'll go back through the first 7 chapters of SoD and bring them up to speed with what writing tricks I've learned. Once that's done, I'll release them in between the chapters of the current New Game Project, and then alternate between chapter releases. So far, the rewriting of ASSiS has been incredibly easy, with Chapter 2 done and awaiting its pre-readers and Chapter 3 about half done.
It's hard to explain how ecstatic I am about this discovery with mere words, so allow me to make a comparison. As happy as I was to see a Wii U under the tree, it's nothing compared to how excited I am to have found Shadows of Deceit again.
